On this Thanksgiving Day, we are grateful for all of the Lord鈥檚 many, many blessings. This week鈥檚 podcast guest, Dr. Michael McKay, Assistant Professor of Biblical Theology, has experienced those blessings in a profound and life-changing way this year.
On a relaxed Saturday morning in June, Michael was experiencing some odd aches and pains, but he didn鈥檛 give much thought to it. When his left leg went numb, he and wife, Lee-Ann, administrative assistant for the Department of History and Government, realized these aches and pains were far beyond the norm.
They suspected a stroke, so they sped off to Greene Memorial Hospital in Xenia, Ohio. During a CT scan of Michael鈥檚 chest, doctors found something shocking 鈥 a dissected aorta. He was rushed to Kettering Medical Center in Kettering, Ohio, for emergency surgery.鈥
Cardiothoracic surgeon Dr. Peter Pavlina and his team operated on Michael for more than 10 hours. Friends, family, and church family worldwide beseeched the Lord for a miracle. And to the amazement of many, Michael survived. He returned to teach classes this fall.
鈥淓very medical professional in my family or who is a friend of mine . . . told me they did not think they would have seen me again until the presence of the Lord,鈥 Michael shared with Cedarville public relations. 鈥淏y all the statistics, I should be dead. I鈥檓 in the bonus round.鈥
